What should you look out for when buying a rectangular swimming pool?

Choosing the right rectangular above-ground pool depends on your garden and your family situation. When making your purchase, bear the following points in mind:

  • The actual dimensions (including the frame): A rectangular frame pool has protruding legs that angle outwards. Always add approximately 30 to 50 cm to the length and width of the water basin to determine whether the pool will fit in your garden.
  • Water depth: For young children, a pool with a depth of 60 to 76 cm is often more than sufficient. Do you want to swim properly, dive underwater or relax on an air mattress? Then opt for a depth of 100 cm, 122 cm or 132 cm
  • With or without a filter pump: Many of our rectangular pools are supplied as a complete set including a pump. For smaller pools, a cartridge filter pump is sufficient; for the largest models (5 metres in length and above), we recommend a sand filter pump for optimal water quality.
  • Included accessories: Take a close look at the product description. Larger models often include a safety ladder, ground sheet and cover. For the more compact models, it is best to order these separately.

The advantages of a rectangular shape

  1. Space-saving: Most Belgian and Dutch gardens feature clean, straight lines. A rectangular pool complements this style beautifully and leaves less ‘wasted’ space than a round pool.
  2. Water sports and games: Fancy a game of water polo or volleyball? A rectangular pool is ideal for stretching a net across the middle.
  3. Swimming laps: Whereas in a round pool you mainly ‘swim in circles’, the larger rectangular pools (ranging from around 4 to 5 metres up to 9 metres in length) are excellent for swimming back and forth.
  4. Sturdy construction: Our rectangular pools are almost always fitted with a sturdy metal tube frame (Metal Frame or Ultra XTR Frame). This ensures unrivalled stability and a long service life.

FAQ

  1. How much space do I need to leave around a rectangular swimming pool?
Leave at least 1 to 1.5 metres of space around the pool. You need this space not only for the protruding U-shaped legs of the frame, but also to get in and out safely, to position the filter pump and to carry out maintenance.
  2. What is a suitable surface for a rectangular above-ground pool?
The surface must be 100% level, firm and flat. Grass, sand or paving slabs (if fitted with a protective underlay) are suitable. Always remove sharp stones or twigs and use a groundsheet or pool tiles (foam) as standard to protect the pool liner.
  3. Does a rectangular pool come with a pump as standard?
This varies by model. Larger models often come with a cartridge or sand filter pump included as standard. With smaller above-ground pools, you may need to purchase this separately. Always check the description in our shop.
  4. How do I maintain the water in my pool?
Always use a filter pump to keep the water circulating and filter out debris. You will also need chemicals: use chlorine tablets (in a floater) to kill bacteria and test your pH level weekly. Cover the pool with a tarpaulin when not in use.
  5. Can I leave a rectangular frame pool up over the winter?
Although the liners (the fabric) and frames are strong, manufacturers recommend dismantling standard above-ground pools in winter, drying them thoroughly and storing them in a frost-free place. This prevents damage from freezing temperatures and ensures your pool lasts considerably longer.
