How do you choose the right pool vacuum cleaner?

Not every pool vacuum cleaner is suitable for every swimming pool. To make the right choice, it is important to take the following features into account:

1. The type and size of your swimming pool
   For a small spa or a shallow children’s pool, a compact handheld vacuum cleaner with a short battery life will suffice. Do you have a larger above-ground or in-ground pool? If so, opt for a model with a wider nozzle and a longer running time (for example, 45 to 90 minutes), so that you can clean the entire pool in one go.
2. Type of dirt: coarse or fine?
   Pay attention to the vacuum cleaner’s filter system. Is there mainly sand or fine dust on the pool floor? If so, you’ll need a pool vacuum cleaner with a fine filter bag or microfilter (often specified in microns). For coarser debris such as leaves and twigs, a standard filter bag or a model with a larger collection bin is better suited to preventing blockages.
3. Range and operation
   Many electric pool vacuums come with a short handle. For larger or deeper pools, an extendable telescopic handle is essential. Always check that the vacuum is compatible with a standard telescopic handle if one is not included as standard.

  Yes, absolutely. In fact, compact battery-powered electric vacuum cleaners are the best choice for spas. They are manoeuvrable enough to clean between the seats and contours of the spa, without you having to rely on a pump. 
• How long does the battery of an electric pool vacuum last?
  This depends heavily on the model and price range. Compact models for spas last on average 30 to 45 minutes on a full battery. Heavier models for larger pools can run for up to 90 minutes or longer before needing to be recharged. 
• Do I need a telescopic handle?
  For a spa, the short handle supplied is usually sufficient. For an above-ground or in-ground pool, we always recommend a telescopic handle. This allows you to comfortably vacuum the bottom from the side without having to stand in the water yourself. 
• How do I clean the filter of my pool vacuum cleaner?
  After use, open the vacuum cleaner’s compartment. Remove the filter bag or cartridge and rinse it thoroughly with a garden hose. Allow the filter to dry before storing it. This prevents mould growth and maintains suction power.
