How do you choose the right water toys for your swimming pool?
There is a huge range of pool toys available. To avoid buying an inflatable toy that is too big for a pool that is too small, or choosing toys that are not age-appropriate, we recommend you bear the following points in mind:
- The size of your pool: For a standard above-ground pool (such as an Intex or Bestway), water balls, diving rings and smaller inflatable rings are ideal. Large inflatable islands, flamingos or unicorns take up more space and are better suited to large pools. Otherwise, you’ll hardly be able to swim.
- Age and safety: For babies and toddlers, it is best to choose stable baby floats or shallow toys with multiple air chambers for extra safety. Older children (who have a swimming certificate) often enjoy active toys such as water pistols, diving sticks or inflatable volleyball nets more.
- Active play or relaxation: Are you looking for toys for action-packed activities (such as water polo or diving), or are you looking for an inflatable lounger, doughnut or air mattress to float around in the sun with a drink?

Maintenance and extending the service life
Do not leave inflatable toys lying in direct sunlight on the water for long periods when you are not using them. UV radiation can cause the material to become brittle over time. After the swimming season, rinse the toys thoroughly with tap water (to remove chlorine or salt), leave them to dry completely to prevent mould, and then fold them up loosely.

There are water toys to suit every age. Babyfloats with a seat are often suited for children aged 1 year and older. For most large inflatable toys or diving toys, an age of 3 to 6 years is recommended, and a swimming certificate is essential. However, regardless of their age or the type of toy, never leave children in the water without adult supervision. - What’s the best and quickest way to inflate large inflatable water toys?
Small beach balls and swimming rings can be inflated by mouth. For larger items such as inflatable islands or animals, it is best to use a double-action hand pump, a foot pump or an electric air pump. Never use a compressor designed for car tyres, as the pressure is too high and could cause the seams of the toys to tear immediately. - How do I repair a puncture in my inflatable toy?
Many water toys come with a small repair patch. Clean and dry the area around the leak thoroughly. Stick the patch firmly in place and press out any air bubbles. Then wait at least 30 minutes (preferably a few hours) before inflating the toy again and putting it back in the water. - Can inflatable water toys also be used in the sea?
Yes, the material is resistant to salt water. However, caution is advised: wind and currents at sea can cause you to drift away very quickly on an inflatable bed or inflatable toy. You should therefore only use inflatable toys at sea close to the shoreline, with the wind blowing towards the beach. - What’s the best way to store water toys after the summer?
Rinse the toys under clean tap water to remove any traces of chlorine, salt or sun cream. Leave them to dry completely. If necessary, sprinkle a little talcum powder over them (this prevents the plastic from sticking together) and store them in a dry, frost-free place.
