A winter-ready pool in 5 steps

After all that summer splashing, is it time again to duffle up your pool for the upcoming winter? With poolboy Marcel's handy tips, you can winterise your pool in 5 steps! Time to dive into our article 👇 🤿

Built-up pool: summer ready? Put it away!

Does the temperature dip below 4°C? Then it's high time to dismantle your pool and winterise it indoors.

1. Scoop it up

Fish all the leaves and other dirt out of your pool with a scoop net.

2. Pump it

Connect the garden hose to the drain valve and drain your pool. Or opt for a handy submersible pump, which does all the work for you!

3. Free everything from water

Disconnect all accessories, clear your pump of water and wipe the accessories dry. Water expands in freezing temperatures, so dry everything thoroughly to avoid damage.

4.  Scrub the summer away

The water you've been splashing around in for weeks not only leaves beautiful summer memories but also an ugly waterline. Give the liner a thorough scrubbing on the inside and outside. This will make those dirty waterlines disappear easily! Let the liner dry outdoors on a dry and sunny day, then wipe with a dry cloth.

5. Talcum powder against cracks

Cover all walls with talcum powder to prevent cracks and holes. Then loosely fold the liner and store indoors until next year.

Indoor pool: after splashing, time for cleaning!

Does the temperature dip below 12°C? Then it gets too chilly for algae to survive & that's your cue to take the pool under flippers... er, hands!

1. Get rid of dirt

After all that water & splashing fun, a lot of dirt such as blades of grass, leaves & remnants of sun cream remain in the pool. An automatic robot pool cleaner vacuums up this dirt. And without you having to make any effort yourself! Also check the pH & chlorine levels and bring them up to standard with the appropriate chemicals.

2. A clean filter

Clean the filter with filter cleaner & perform a backwash. Store loose parts in a frost-free place!

3. Lower the water level

Lower the water level to below the skimmer & clean the water line with a liner cleaner.

4.
Winterproof the pool
Add the Winterproof product to allow the water to remain in the pool all autumn. This will reduce your water consumption & get the pool ready for use again quickly during nice summer days.

5. Protective cover

Protect your pool or spa from falling leaves, rain & snow with a suitable cover.

Tip from poolboy Marcel

Is your filter pump not powerful enough to drive an automatic robot? Then an electric or rechargeable pool cleaner is the solution!
