A trampoline in the garden guarantees hours of fun and is the perfect way to get children active outdoors. At Hermie, you’ll find a carefully selected range of trampolines to suit any garden, whatever its size. Whether you’re looking for a classic freestanding trampoline that’s easy to move, or a sleek in-ground trampoline that blends beautifully into your lawn, we’re happy to help you make the right choice. Safety, sturdiness and weather resistance are our top priorities for all our models, so you can let the children jump with complete peace of mind. Find out below which type best suits your garden and your needs.

Which trampoline is right for your garden?

A trampoline is an investment that you want to enjoy for years to come. To make the right choice, there are three key factors to bear in mind: the type, the shape and the size.

1. Inground or above ground trampoline?

  • Frame-mounted (on legs): This is the most accessible model. You can set it up straight away and move it later if necessary. As the trampoline is raised higher off the ground, a safety net is absolutely essential for safety.
  • Inground: These trampolines are placed over a dug-out pit, making the entry level much lower. This creates a calmer and more streamlined look in the garden. A variation on this is the Flatground, where the jumping mat lies completely flush with the grass.

2. Will you go for a round or rectangular one?

  • Round trampolines: The traditional choice. The main advantage of a round trampoline is that the springs automatically pull the jumper towards the safe centre. Ideal and safe for younger children.
  • Rectangular trampolines: This shape is easier to position in a corner or flush against a fence, which is perfect for narrower gardens. What’s more, the bounce is consistent across the entire mat, which is popular with older children who like to do tricks.

3. Determine the correct size

Take a critical look at the available space in your garden. Make sure you always leave 1 to 1.5 metres of clear space around the trampoline, free from walls, trees or hard paving. Popular sizes range from compact models (around 200 cm) for small gardens, to very spacious versions (over 400 cm) for optimal jumping space.

Safety and accessories for long-lasting enjoyment

Safety is the top priority when it comes to outdoor toys. When making your choice, always check the quality of the protective edging; it must be thick and wide enough to fully cover the steel springs and the frame.

Maintenance and handy extras

To extend the lifespan of your trampoline, we recommend a number of accessories:

  • Anchoring kit: Essential for above-ground trampolines in open gardens. This allows you to secure the frame firmly in the ground to withstand strong winds.
  • Trampoline steps: Make getting on and off an above-ground trampoline much easier and safer for young children.

FAQ

  • From what age is a trampoline suitable?
Most trampolines are suitable for children aged 3 and over, provided they are supervised whilst jumping. From the age of 6, children have the motor skills and balance to jump more independently and higher. Always ensure that the safety net is securely fastened when young children are using the trampoline.
  • Can I install an in-ground trampoline myself?
Yes, you can do this yourself. Every in-ground trampoline comes with clear instructions setting out the exact dimensions of the pit. This is often dug in a bowl shape. Do ensure there is good drainage or that the ground is sandy, so that water does not collect in the pit.
  • Can the trampoline be left outside during the winter?
Yes, trampolines are designed for outdoor use and can be left outside during the winter. However, to minimise rust and weather damage, it is strongly recommended that you use a cover and store the safety net (if applicable) away during heavy storms or snowfall.
  • What is the maximum weight capacity of a trampoline?
This varies considerably depending on the model, shape and size. There is a difference between the test load (static weight) and the maximum jumping weight. Always check the product specifications for the maximum user weight to ensure safety and to preserve the springs.
  • How do I keep the jumping mat and the edging clean?
You can easily clean the trampoline with lukewarm water and a soft cloth or brush. Do not use harsh cleaning products or scouring pads, as these can damage the material’s water-repellent and UV-resistant coating.
