How do you choose the right pool robot?

There are a number of key differences between the pool robots we offer. To avoid paying for features you don’t need, or choosing a pool robot that isn’t powerful enough, it’s best to look out for the following three features:

1. What does the robot need to clean? (The cleaning area)

• Just the base: Perfect for above-ground pools with a flat base or smaller in-ground pools. These models are often lighter, more budget-friendly and quicker to install.
• Bottom and walls: Do you have an in-ground pool or a larger above-ground pool with sturdy walls? If so, choose a model that also cleans the walls. This will save you a lot of scrubbing.
• Floor, walls and waterline: the ultimate choice for in-ground swimming pools. The waterline is where dirt, sun cream and grease build up. These robots scrub this tricky area completely clean.

2. Type of swimming pool and lining 

Not every pool robot can grip every surface.

• Do you have a smooth floor surface, such as mosaic tiles or polyester? If so, choose a robot with special brushes for extra grip, otherwise it will slide off.
• Standard slat brushes (PVC brushes) are ideal for standard PVC-lined or above-ground pools (such as Intex or Bestway).

3. Wireless or with a power cable?

• Battery-powered pool robots: No more hassle with tangled cables. Simply charge the robot and let it run its cycle. Very popular for modern gardens and above-ground pools.
• Corded pool robots: Ideal for large pools. You aren’t limited by battery life, so the robot can effortlessly run long or double cycles. Please note that the cable must be at least as long as the longest side of your pool, plus the distance to the power socket.

Frequently asked questions about pool robots

1. Can a pool robot be used in a saltwater pool?
   Yes, most modern pool robots are suitable for saltwater pools (saltwater electrolysis). However, it is important to rinse the robot thoroughly with fresh tap water after each cleaning session to prevent corrosion of the motors.
2. Why has my pool robot stopped climbing the walls?
   There could be several reasons for this. Usually, the filter is full, causing the robot to lose suction and grip. Alternatively, the pH level or chlorine level may be out of balance, making the walls too slippery (due to algae growth). Finally, the brushes may be worn out.
3. Can I leave the pool robot in the water?
   No, always remove the robot from the water once its cleaning cycle has finished. Prolonged exposure to pool chemicals (such as chlorine) can damage the plastic parts, brushes and motor seals. Store it in a dry, shaded place.
4. How long does a pool robot last?
   With proper maintenance (cleaning the filters regularly, rinsing them with fresh water and not storing them in direct sunlight), a high-quality pool robot will last an average of 5 to 8 years. Wear parts such as brushes and filters should be replaced every few seasons.
