Chlorine and chlorine floats

Chlorine is essential to enjoy a clear & hygienic pool! 🏊

Our advice? After filling up the pool, immediately add fast-acting chlorine so the water is properly disinfected & you can quickly enjoy a fresh dive. Afterwards, use long-acting chlorine every 2 weeks to keep the water clean as well.

Why do you need chlorine in your pool?

Chlorine is one of the most effective means of controlling bacteria, algae and other micro-organisms in pool water. By regularly treating your pool with chlorine you

  • Prevent unpleasant odours and discolouration
  • Keep water hygienic
  • Extend the life of your filter pump and other components of your overall system

Which type of chlorine do you choose?

✅ Chlorine tablets: Ideal for a constant release of chlorine. They dissolve slowly and keep your water continuously disinfected. Use them in a chlorine dispenser or skimmer basket for even distribution.

✅ Chlorine granules (fast-acting chlorine): Perfect for quickly replenishing chlorine levels. Useful in case of chlorine shock or when your pool has just been refilled. Dissolves quickly in warm water and works effectively against incipient algae formation.

✅ Liquid chlorine: For automatic dosing systems or larger pools. An efficient solution for those who do not want to worry about manual dosing.

When do you use chlorine tablets and when chlorine powder?

Chlorine tablets, as the name suggests, come in tablet form. Chlorine powder can dissolve faster in water than tablets. Powder is therefore more suitable for a so-called chlorine shock. This is best performed when the chlorine level is too low. Chlorine tablets are used to maintain the chlorine level. Thanks to the tablet form, the pool chlorine is released into the water more slowly.

Chlorine dispensers for safe use

A chlorine dispenser is the safest and most user-friendly way to add chlorine tablets to your pool. At Hermie, you will find dispensers in various sizes, with or without adjustable release. There are also floating dispensers with thermometer: handy and practical.

How much chlorine do you need?

The ideal chlorine value is between 1 and 3 ppm. Too little chlorine can cause cloudy or green water. Too much chlorine causes irritation to skin and eyes. Use a digital tester or test strips regularly to check your water values.

Tip from Marcel: combine with pH control

Chlorine only works optimally when the correct pH is between 7.2 and 7.6. Therefore, also check the pH weekly and correct where necessary with pH-minus or pH-plus.
