Please note that a pool with a salt water system is NOT chlorine-free. This means that you do need to keep an eye on the chlorine levels with a tester.

A saltwater system is low-maintenance in the sense that you do not have to add new chlorine tablets every few days. However, the output of the saltwater system should always be monitored. How much the system needs to release depends on swimming behaviour and the weather.

How exactly does a saltwater system work? 

If you use a saltwater system, you obviously need to supply your pool water with the necessary pool salt. Salt is sodium chloride. The salt pool water is sent through titanium-coated plates in the salt water system that are slightly electrically charged. Electrolysis separates the molecules, leaving sodium and chloride. 

The chloride cleans the water, after which it naturally binds to the sodium again. An inexhaustible resource is thus created, so to speak. 1 replenishment of salt per swimming season is normally sufficient.
