What are the benefits of a saltwater system?

The filter pump is the engine behind your pool. It keeps the water clean & clear, allowing you to splash around. A salt water system is also a great addition to keep your pool water clean, without the use of chemical chlorine, and that's what we're diving deeper into today!

Working on the basis of salt electrolysis, this filtration system converts pool salt into natural chlorine to kill algae and bacteria. So you can enjoy a clean and disinfected pool, without the use of chemical chlorine. This is the solution for those pesky red & itchy eyes and your sensitive skin!

A saltwater system also saves you a lot of extra maintenance and pool care products. Extra time to enjoy swimming laps and better for your wallet. It also makes the precious water last longer. And no, the pool water doesn't taste like the salty sea! 😉

How does such a saltwater system work?

Fill the pump with pool salt and run the system. Thanks to electrolysis, the pool salt is converted into natural chlorine. During this process, powerful oxidants are released that kill the algae, fungi & bacteria present in the water. So you enjoy hygienic water. You only need to fill the system with pool salt once, as the salt is reused over and over again, which is handy and especially economical!

Attention:
only use special pool salt, other salt is not suitable for a saltwater system!

Measuring is knowing!

Even though the system only adds natural salt-based chlorine, it is still important to keep an eye on the pool values. There may be no chemical chlorine involved, but make no mistake, the water is not chlorine-free with a salt water system. Is there too little chlorine in the water? Then you can increase the running hours of the saltwater system, or even administer a ‘chlorine shock’ to the water to get the chlorine levels back up to par. You can easily measure the pool values with test strips or a reusable meter. Moreover, this way you will also find out the pH value, alkalinity & hardness of your water!

How do you connect the saltwater system?

The saltwater system is always connected as the last step. This allows the clean water to flow directly into the pool. Always check whether your filter pump has the right capacity to be connected to the saltwater system. Is the capacity of the filter pump too low or too high? Then the saltwater system will not work (properly)! Would you like to connect other accessories, such as a solar mat or swimming pool heating? Then place these accessories between the filter pump and the saltwater system.

Are there any drawbacks to a saltwater system?

While we are fans of the natural disinfection these saltwater systems offer, there is one drawback: the salt can sometimes cause some rust on the aluminium and iron parts of your pool. For us, however, this outweighs all the benefits of salt electrolysis. So get rid of it all 😉

Just a few more facts at a glance!

  • Disinfects the pool thanks to natural chlorine (= not completely chlorine-free!)
  • No more red & itchy eyes
  • Saves you extra work & maintenance products
  • You only need to add salt once
  • Does not replace a filter pump
  • Can cause some rust on aluminium and iron surfaces
