Nothing brings as much joy on a hot summer’s day as water fun in your own garden. With an inflatable children’s paddling pool, you can create a safe and refreshing play area for the little ones in no time at all. Whether you’re looking for a compact baby pool for their very first splashing experience, or a feature-packed play pool with a slide for active toddlers, at Hermie you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for. Our children’s pools are made from sturdy, child-friendly material and are designed with extra attention to safety and comfort. This way, the children can cool off to their heart’s content, whilst you enjoy the lovely weather with complete peace of mind.
How do you choose the right children’s paddling pool?
Choosing the ideal paddling pool depends on your child’s age and the space available in your garden. When making your purchase, bear these practical considerations in mind:
- Age and depth: For babies (up to 1 year old), a small, shallow bath with a soft, inflatable base is the best and safest choice. For toddlers (1 to 3 years old), baths with one or two air tubes are perfect. From around 4 years old, you can look for slightly roomier or taller baths with three rings.
- Sun protection: Children’s skin burns easily. Will the paddling pool be placed in a spot that gets a lot of sun? If so, choose a children’s paddling pool with a built-in sun canopy, or buy a good-quality parasol straight away to place over the pool.
- Interactive Play Centres: Are you looking for more than just a paddling pool? Many children’s pools these days are designed as fully-fledged play centres. They feature water sprayers (which you can easily connect to a garden hose), rings, balls and a built-in slide. Perfect for keeping boredom at bay for hours on end.
- Comfort on the bottom: Check whether the paddling pool has an inflatable base. This ensures a soft landing should the little ones accidentally slip whilst playing.
Safety and use in the garden
When enjoying water activities with children, safety is always the top priority. Never allow children – no matter how shallow the water is – to be in or near the swimming pool without adult supervision.
In addition, preparing your garden properly is important for the lifespan of the paddling pool. Always place a children’s paddling pool on a soft, level surface. First, remove any sharp stones and twigs from the lawn or patio. Then, always use a protective groundsheet or foam pool tiles. This not only prevents the pool from getting punctured, but also feels much more comfortable and warmer under the children’s feet. Without a filter pump, the water in these small pools heats up quickly. This is comfortable, but it does mean you need to change the water regularly (preferably daily or every other day) to keep it fresh and hygienic.
FAQ
- At what age can a baby start using a baby paddling pool?
As soon as a baby can sit up independently and steadily (usually around 6 to 8 months), they can play in a shallow pool of water under constant supervision. Choose a special baby paddling pool with a soft, inflatable base and ensure the water temperature is comfortably warm (around 32°C). - How do I keep the water in a children’s paddling pool clean?
Small paddling pools do not have a filter pump. It is best to cover the water with a tarpaulin in the evening to keep out leaves and insects. As there is no circulation, we recommend changing the water completely every one to two days. You can easily use the old water to water your plants! - What should I put underneath an inflatable children’s paddling pool?
Never place the pool directly on paving stones or bare sand. The best surface is a flat lawn, covered with a groundsheet or special foam pool tiles (interlocking mats). This protects the pool’s surface and prevents the children from hurting their knees. - Can I use chlorine in a paddling pool?
We do not recommend using chlorine in small baby and toddler paddling pools, as babies’ skin is often too sensitive to it and the water needs to be changed daily anyway. For larger paddling pools, you could use a mini chlorine tablet with a very low dosage, provided you remove it whilst the children are playing. - How can I safely store the children’s paddling pool away for the winter?
Drain the pool completely, wipe the inside with a cloth and mild (non-chemical) soapy water, and rinse it thoroughly. The most important thing is to ensure the pool is 100% dry before folding it away. Then store it in a frost-free, dry place to prevent mould and damage to the material.
