What exactly are seed potatoes?

Moreover, sowing involves a lot more work. The best-known types of seed potatoes include potatoes, onions, shallots and garlic. Sometimes the terms planting material and seed potatoes are used interchangeably, but there is indeed a difference. Planting seed potatoes involves planting a small tuber, while planting potatoes involves planting pre-grown plants. Examples of planting material are tomato plants and lettuce plants.

Why choose seed potatoes specifically?

You might wonder why you need to buy seed potatoes then? Can't you just plant the potatoes you buy in the supermarket? The answer to that is yes, you can, but... Seed potatoes are grown in such a way that the yield per tuber is many times higher than with eating potatoes, onions, shallots... Moreover, the risk of diseases is a lot lower with seed potatoes.
