Tip from our blog
Which greenhouse do I choose?

Greenhouses have long since ceased to be found only in grandmother's garden. Their main purpose is still to grow fruit and vegetables in a warm environment, but nowadays they are increasingly used as garden rooms as well. The conservatory then becomes an extension of the living room, among the greenery in the garden.

They come in all kinds of shapes, colours and finishes as well as price ranges. In this article, we therefore list a number of different types of conservatories, with their recommended prices and features. That way, you can easily determine which conservatory suits your lifestyle and, not unimportantly, your budget!

ACD greenhouses vs Vitavia greenhouses

ACD conservatories are generally slightly more expensive than Vitavia conservatories. Both brands offer excellent value for money, but there are some differences. These immediately explain the difference in price and why ACD greenhouses are ideal for seasoned vegetable gardeners, while Vitavia greenhouses are also perfect for novice vegetable gardeners.

The advantages of ACD conservatories

  • The most robust construction on the market
Even the strongest autumn storm won't get an ACD greenhouse down. While roof tiles and even trampolines are blown away, your ACD greenhouse won't budge. It is the most storm-proof greenhouse on the market. ACD proves this with a whopping 12-year warranty!
  • Self-supporting foundation profile
The self-supporting foundation profile of an ACD conservatory ensures maximum stability and load-bearing capacity and also makes the conservatory easy to move.
  • Extremely strong safety glass
Children playing football in the garden or a large branch blown away by a strong wind... A glass structure in the garden remains a risk factor. But ACD conservatories are extremely strong. The 4 mm thick ACD safety glass is as much as 7 times stronger than drawn horticultural glass.
  • Easy installation
Not a handy guy? No problem! ACD conservatories are very easy to install without drilling or grinding.

The advantages of Vitavia conservatories

  • Excellent value for money
German solidity is a real concept, and Vitavia conservatories are happy to benefit from it. Vitavia offers no less than a 10-year manufacturer's warranty on the frame.
  • From horticultural or safety glass
A Vitavia greenhouse is equipped - depending on the type - with 3 mm thick horticultural or safety glass.
  • Steel foundation
A Vitavia conservatory is supplied with a 6 cm steel construction foundation which provides an extremely robust foundation.
  • Easy assembly
Thanks to the handy instruction videos , assembling a Vitavia conservatory really is child's play.

In the spotlight: ACD and Vitavia wall greenhouses

Wall greenhouses are the perfect solution for gardeners who want to save space or simply do not have enough room for an oversized greenhouse. Compact wall greenhouses are ideal if you have a smaller garden or only have a (roof) terrace or balcony. An ACD or Vitavia wall greenhouse is placed against an existing wall. This retains extra heat, which in turn creates a perfect climate for your greenhouse plants.

Glass greenhouses vs polycarbonate greenhouses

Glass greenhouses

The classic variant of a conservatory is a glass greenhouse. The walls and roof of such an ACD or Vitavia garden greenhouse are then made of safety or horticultural glass.

Safety glass is - the name gives it away - extremely sturdy and safe. The glass panels are high quality, making them resistant to scratches and strong impact by, for example, flying branches. Safety glass in ACD and Vitavia greenhouses is fully finished at the edge, which makes assembly much easier and safer. Safety glass is designed so that if it does crack, it shatters into thousands of blunt pieces. This is safer than with regular glass.

Horticultural glass is itself a very sturdy type of glass, but it is not equal to safety glass. The chance of glass breaking during assembly or on impact from, say, a football or flying debris during a storm is clearly greater. It is, however, extremely resistant to cleaning agents and scratches.

Polycarbonate greenhouses

Apart from glass, polycarbonate is also possible as a material for the walls and roof of the conservatory. Polycarbonate is ideal if you want to make full use of insulation. Depending on the exact conditions, polycarbonate sheets can insulate up to 40% better than glass. This is because ACD or Vitavia polycarbonate greenhouses feature double-walled polycarbonate sheets. The air between them protects your greenhouse crops from fluctuating outdoor temperatures. With the help of an ACD or Vitavia polycarbonate greenhouse the garden season starts earlier for you and ends later. Also, uv rays are filtered very effectively.

A possible disadvantage of polycarbonate is that it is not completely transparent like glass. Some kitchen gardeners find that it therefore has a slightly cheaper look than glass, although this is of course personal preference.
