Which Christmas tree should I choose?
Some people get their Christmas decorations out of the attic in November, while others wait until the beginning of December. Before you start throwing flickering lights and glittering garlands around, it is of course important to get a tree in the house. You can opt for an artificial Christmas tree that you can reuse for years or for the charm of a real one.
Do you choose the real fir tree? In this article we you the differences between the two most popular firs. 👇
🎄 The Nordmann
The Abies nordmanniana, also known as the Nordmann, is
the star among Christmas trees. In recent years, it has been brought into the living room more and more often, and that is certainly not unjustified. Its biggest advantage is that the needles hardly fall out. That saves you a lot of tidying up work. It has a beautiful deep green colour and broad, sturdy branches that can support a lot of decoration. The needles are soft, so they do not sting, and shiny. Do you dream of a beautiful traditional tree like in the Christmas movies? Then this Christmas tree is perfect for you!
The only drawback?
For such a beautiful tree the price tag is also a bit higher. The Nordmann is a slow grower and stands several years in the field before it has reached the perfect height and can be harvested. You will also have to take care of the typical pine smell yourself with a room spray. The needles only release their scent when touched.
🎄 The Omorika
The Picea omorika, or Serbian fir, distinguishes itself from other Christmas trees by its blue-grey shine on the needles. These needles hang longer than those of the ordinary Christmas spruce, but they do prickle. The Omorika is somewhat narrower and more compact, so it is ideal for providing a smaller space with the necessary Christmas atmosphere. It also provides a lovely fresh aroma in the house. Do you buy the Omorika in a pot or with a wire root ball? Then you can also plant it in the garden after the festive season. Please note: it is a fast grower and can grow to a height of several metres.
