Ventilate your greenhouse

Ventilation in a greenhouse is essential for regulating temperature and humidity, preventing diseases and fungi, and promoting healthy plant growth by removing moist air and bringing in fresh, oxygen-rich air. This ensures optimal growing conditions and prevents damage to plants and the greenhouse itself from condensation and mould.

Importance of ventilation:

Temperature regulation:

Ventilation helps lower the temperature inside the greenhouse, especially during hot summer days, preventing overheating of the room.

Prevention of diseases and fungi:

Good air circulation drains moist, stagnant air. This is crucial to limit the growth of fungi and the spread of germs, which can be harmful to plants.

Healthy air climate:

By removing moist and polluted air and letting in fresh air, ventilation creates a healthier and more oxygen-rich climate that is essential for optimal plant growth.

Preventing condensation:

Moist air settles on cold surfaces such as glass, leading to condensation. Regular ventilation removes this moisture and reduces condensation on the windows and profiles of the conservatory.

Windows 🪟

  • Extra roof window - aluminium or coated: By installing an extra roof window, you can ventilate your greenhouse even better.
--> TIP: Do not mount the roof windows directly opposite each other, but mount them at an angle.
  • Automatic window opener: With an automatic window opener you can ventilate your greenhouse optimally without having to do anything yourself. An automatic window opener is a hydraulic system and does not need electricity. The oil in the pump reacts to changes in temperature. This oil expands when heated, pushing the window open, and contracts when the temperature drops, causing the window to close again.
  • Replacement cylinder - spindle crank for spindle
  • Louvre window (+ possibly automatic window opener Louvre window): A Louvre window is a type of slatted window on the side of your greenhouse. It is an additional option for ventilation to control air flow and temperature. A Louvre window can also be equipped with an automatic opener. You cannot order a Louvre window separately. In fact, one of the standard windows has to be adapted.

Doors 🚪

  • Extra door aluminium or coated: With an extra door you can turn the standard single door into a double door. Or you mount an extra door on the back wall.
-> CAUTION: A door can only be mounted on the short sides of normal ACD greenhouses. With the XH models, you have complete freedom.
-> PLEASE NOTE: An additional door is not possible on ACD greenhouses with 3 window elements on the front facade (R2 and S1 models).
  • Metro door aluminium or coated: A metro door is a double sliding door that is only 1 window element wide. A metro door thus replaces the single door that is included in the package anyway. The metro door gets its name from the typical doors that are used in metro trains. The left side opens to the left, the right side opens to the right.
  • Patio door aluminium or coated: A patio door is a large sliding door that you mount on the side of the conservatory. A patio door is 2 window elements wide so you create a very large opening.
-> CAUTION: A patio door is not possible in a greenhouse where the longest side contains 4 window elements or in a greenhouse with sloping walls
  • Aluminium or coated screen door: Using a screen door ensures sufficient ventilation in your conservatory while keeping out unwanted guests such as cats, dogs or rabbits. A screen door cannot be combined with a double sliding door, only with a single sliding door. You can find more information on screen doors in this video
  • Insect screen - black

Personalise your greenhouse

  • Ridge decoration: Ridge decoration gives your greenhouse a unique and authentic look. It also prevents birds from perching on the roof of your conservatory. When choosing ridge decoration, pay close attention. The ridge decoration you need depends on the number of windows on the long side of the conservatory.
-> CAUTION: The ridge decoration must be fitted when the conservatory is constructed. Retrofitting is NOT possible.
  • Black drain pipes - plastic or aluminium: Would you like to collect rainwater to use in your conservatory? Right you are! With the help of black drainpipes, you can easily collect rainwater in a rain barrel for smart use afterwards.

Protect the plants in your greenhouse 🌱

  • Shade cloths: The increasingly hot summers bring some dangers. For instance, the bright sun can burn the plants in your greenhouse, even with hammered glass in the roof. Controlling the indoor temperature and blocking uv rays is therefore vital for the crops in your greenhouse. A shade cloth can lower the temperature by up to 10°C during sunny days. You choose a shade cloth based on the model of the conservatory or the number of windows you want to cover.
