Helleborus niger plant

The most beautiful winter flowering plant Helleborus niger

The typical Belgian autumn and winter are grey and drizzly. However, to bring some colour into your garden or terrace, you do not have to wait until spring arrives. During a mild winter, Helleborus niger already flowers in December and January. And we can tell you in advance that it is a real winter wonder!

🌸 Floralwealth

Therefore, Helleborus niger is also called the Christmas rose (do not confuse it with the traditional red poinsettia or Euphorbia pulcherrima). The colour palette of the Helleborus niger changes throughout the flowering period. You will start off with white flowers which will later change to a soft pink & green colour. Would you like a bit more colour? Then there are also varieties with a deep wine red colour. Wonderful during the winter months. The Helleborus is not stingy with its flowers either, as it opens one bud after another. So you can enjoy a real wealth of flowers.

❄️ Resistant to the winter cold

If it does get colder, these plants are almost unattended. In case of light frost they will store the moisture in their roots and leaves. This causes the flowers to hang down limply, which makes it look as if they are beyond saving. Nothing is further from the truth, because as soon as the cold is out of the country, the flowers come back to life. For Hellebores that are in a pot, you can wrap some bubble wrap or burlap sacks around the pot during freezing weather to protect it.
