Yellow mustard
Yellow mustard is the most commonly planted green manure crop. The plant grows rapidly and covers the soil very quickly. Under favorable growing conditions, it can produce a large amount of organic matter in a very short time.
When yellow mustard is sown in the spring, it produces small, yellow flowers in the summer. The taproot grows quite deep. If you’re using yellow mustard as a green manure, it’s best to sow it in August–September. Maintain a planting distance of 20 cm and a seeding depth of 2 cm.
Mow the crop first before attempting to till it. Tilling will be much easier this way. Yellow mustard readily absorbs nitrogen and quickly releases it for the next crop.
Sowing time: August through September
