Passiflora caerulea, also called blue passion flower, is an evergreen climbing plant. It grows in a narrow upright form. The glossy leaves are dark green in color.
FLOWING:
This passion flower blooms from June to October. Beautiful large and star-shaped flowers appear. These are blue-white in color. In the center of the flower you will find light blue and violet-colored filaments. in the fall, the passion flower bears orange-yellow fruits. These are edible but not so tasty!
LOCATION AND MAINTENANCE:
Passiflora caerulea likes a sheltered position in full sun or partial shade (preferably south or west facing). This plant prefers a slightly moist and well-drained soil. It is a fast grower so it is best to prune it once or twice a year in the spring or summer. It is quite hardy, and can withstand sea breezes and air pollution well. It also attracts bees and butterflies to the garden.
