Panicum virgatum 'Heavy Metal' can be recognized by its airy, mauve-colored flower panicles. Once the seed begins to ripen, the panicles quickly take on a straw color. This ornamental grass looks great as an eye-catcher in your garden.
The leaves are narrow and have a blue-green/blue-gray color, evolving to a yellow-beige color in the fall.
