These nematodes can only be applied when the ambient temperature is at least 10°C (April/May) and for soil treatment after harvesting the potatoes.
How to use on potato plants?
Dissolve the nematodes in water and then spray them onto the potato foliage. Both the upper and lower surfaces of the leaves must be thoroughly moistened. This treatment must be carried out in the evening, as the nematodes are sensitive to UV radiation and the leaves must remain wet for at least 6 hours. In the evening, humidity rises, allowing the plants to retain moisture longer. A foliar application using a standard backpack sprayer is possible, but all filters smaller than 1 mm must be removed; otherwise, the nematodes will be damaged.
It is recommended to use a wetting agent (an organic fatty acid, such as an eco-friendly dishwashing liquid) to help the nematodes adhere better to the leaves. The treatment must be repeated after 1 week. You can reuse the same package if it is stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator and the expiration date has not yet passed.
The treatment can be applied once larvae are present at an ambient temperature of 10°C.
Severe damage? Treat the soil as well!
If you’ve had a severe infestation of Colorado potato beetles, it’s best to treat the soil with nematodes after the potato harvest. The older Colorado potato beetle larvae fall from the leaves and burrow into the soil. At that point, it’s best to control them with nematodes. This will help prevent a new infestation of Colorado potato beetles the following season or damage to late-season potato varieties in the same season.
