Sowing instructions: Sow in a seedbed in the open ground from late March through mid-May. Transplant when the plants are as thick as a pencil. Leeks grow best in fertile, well-loosened, and well-fertilized soil.

Additional information

Hiverbleu leeks are a specially selected variety for true winter cultivation. This variety has blue-green leaves. After the frost period, the plants grow to a substantial size with sturdy white shafts (the lower white part of the plant). The plants can remain in the ground for a long time.

Leeks for true winter cultivation are sown directly into the open ground in mid-April. Leeks grow best in humus-rich soil with a loose structure. Loosen the soil thoroughly before planting. It’s best to sow the seeds generously spaced. Transplant the leeks in July when the seedlings are about the thickness of a pencil.

• Distance between furrows: 40 cm
• Spacing between plants in the furrow: 15 cm

Tip

To prevent damage from onion fly larvae, it is recommended to treat both the seedbed and the planting bed against them.
