No garden should be without a nest box. This basic nest box with pure materials offers the Winter Wren a good place to nest in and to maintain or reestablish populations of this bird species in an area. In winter, the nest box often proves a good service for the birds to take shelter from the bad weather.
Place the nesting box on a tree or wall, at a height of up to 2 meters, in a well-hidden spot between dense shrubs or climbing plants, in a quiet and somewhat sheltered place, so not directly in the sun or on the rain side, with a free approach route for the bird. Because of the birds' territory, hang the nest box at least 10 meters away from nest boxes intended for the same type of bird and at least 3 meters away from feeders. Autumn is the best time to clean the nest box.
