Flower pots indoors

Just about every living room has one or more plants. And an office with plants and/or flowers makes you work more efficiently than a workplace with no greenery. Plants or flowers brighten up the interior and also have a positive impact on both air quality and your mood. In any interior style, plants or flowers look good, and the planters or flower pots add to the overall picture. They are a beautiful addition to your interior design. In a modern, Scandinavian interior, for instance, austere, sober flower pots in earth or grey tones fit in better. A classic, colourful interior is finished off with equally colourful, shiny flower pots and a special houseplant as an eye-catcher.

The bottom of a flower pot tells you whether it's for indoor or outdoor use. When you pour water into your flowerpot, you don't want it to run off the bottom. It's best not to have any circles on the windowsill! An indoor flowerpot is waterproof or you can make it waterproof by using plastic inside. Do you put the plants, including the inner pot, in the flower pot? Then remove the plants from the pot to water them. Are the plants planted in the pot? If so, first cover the bottom of the pot with hydro tablets to prevent root rot. To be on the safe side, you can place indoor flower pots on a plant saucer to catch any excess water. Many indoor planters and flower pots are made of plastic. This material is fairly light, but strong, shock-resistant and easy to remove scratches. They are available from Hermie in a huge range of sizes, shapes and colours.

Outdoor flower pots

Certainly not every flower pot is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Outdoor flowerpots need drainage so that excess rainwater can drain away. If water cannot drain away after a heavy rain shower, you run the risk of your plants drowning and/or fungi forming on them. In addition, outdoor pots are affected a lot more by weather elements than indoor pottery. If you want to leave your flower pots outside all year round, choose uv-resistant and frost-resistant flower pots and planters. This is the case with most outdoor pots, but it never hurts to double-check with the product information 😉 To choose the right flower pot for outside on your terrace, on the windowsill or in the garden, take a few things into account.

  • Depth: Especially with outdoor pots, the depth of the pot is very important. How deep the outdoor flower pot should be depends on the plant you want to put in it. The taller the plant grows that you want to put in the flower pot, the deeper the pot should be so that the roots have enough room.
  • Moveability: Especially with large, heavy plants, it is handy if you can move them easily. For example, if you want to clean your terrace or give a party and want to create space. In that case, choose an outdoor flower pot with wheels or put the flower pot on a plant trolley.

Outdoor flower pots are also available in different varietiesRectangular flower pots are ideal on the windowsill. An oval flower pot also fits on most windowsills, but also looks great on the garden table with a beautiful flower arrangement in it. Larger, round outdoor flower pots and plant containers are best placed on the ground. A 'jungle' of flower pots in different colours and sizes guarantees a beautiful picture!

Types of flower pots in the spotlight

Grow pots

Grow pots from elho, for example, are ideal for your own herb garden. Grow your own basil, thyme, mint or rosemary in these handy grow pots and add an extra touch to your dishes. Thanks to growing pots from Hermie, the roots get optimal aeration and absorb water according to their needs.

Hanging pots

Both indoors and outdoors, hanging pots are a real added value. Exactly how you hang a hanging flower pot can vary. On the one hand, there are hanging flower pots that you hang over a hook, like you do with a picture frame or painting. On the other hand, there are iron constructions for hanging a flower pot. You then hang this construction from a crossbeam or a specially provided hook, for example.

With or without wheels

Large outdoor or indoor flower pots often come with wheels so you can easily move the flower pot (including the plant!) around. Super handy for moving the flower pot to their winter home! There are also plant trolleys specially equipped to move a planter without wheels. With smaller flower pots or planters that - even when filled - are not that heavy, wheels are not necessary.

With or without water tank

Certain indoor and/or outdoor flower pots have an integrated water reservoir. You can think of this as a kind of false bottom where excess water is stored. The plant can use this later when it is thirsty. Such a water reservoir is very handy if you can't water your plants once or if you accidentally gave them a little too much.
