Gaura lindheimeri ''whirling butterflies'' is a short-lived perennial with a bushy upright habit and a tussock-forming habit. This beautiful candle has attractive narrow lanceolate, dark green leaves and blooms from July to the end of October with white butterfly-like flowers of which the petals are attractively tinted pinkish white. Gaura lindheimeri does well in any well-drained soil that is not too wet in winter. The plant is reasonably hardy, well tolerant of sea wind and air pollution. Lends itself well to a sunny border, wild garden or in combination with grasses.
