Oregano, wild marjoram, eel herb - 9x9 cm pot (Origanum vulgare 'Compactum')
Compacte oregano
Product information "Oregano, wild marjoram, eel herb - 9x9 cm pot (Origanum vulgare 'Compactum')"
Compact oregano is the same as the common variety but does not grow as vigorously and is ideal as a ground cover.
CULTIVATION TIPS:
Compact oregano is perennial and hardy. It tastes stronger than the annual marjoram. The soil should preferably be well-drained. If necessary, mix some pebbles under the soil to make it more permeable.
The flowers of oregano attract many butterflies in our garden.
USES:
Compact oregano has the same flavor and properties as wild marjoram, but is much more compact in growth. Oregano is the pizza herb of choice. It is an indispensable herb in Greek and Italian cuisine. The taste fits perfectly with pasta dishes, rice dishes, tomato sauce, roasted vegetables, potato dishes and mushrooms. Sometimes oregano is also called "eel herb", as it is used in the preparation of many eel dishes. We add oregano at the end of the preparation, it is not cooked along.the herb quickly dominates the flavor and should therefore be used sparingly. We can easily make oregano herb oil by soaking the oregano in a bottle of olive oil. The flavor of the oregano is perfectly absorbed by the oil. We can then use this in our preparations.
The herb contains a lot of manganese, iron, calcium, vitamin K and E. Because of its antiseptic and analgesic properties, the herb can be used (as an infusion) to relieve colds and as a cough medicine. Vaporizing oregano is also good for colds. The herb stimulates digestion, relieving headaches, toothaches and menstrual pains.
