Broccoli is one of the finest cabbages and is closely related to cauliflower. The edible part is actually a terminal screen of almost fully developed flower buds. The flavor is more potent than cauliflower.
TILTING TIPS
:Broccoli is less demanding than e.g. cauliflower.
A fertile, moist and chalky soil with a good structure is ideal.
Make sure the soil is well drained, especially in winter cultivation.
Before starting your cultivation, give a good basic fertilizer and plenty of lime.
Planting distance 45 x 60 cm, denser than most other cabbage varieties.
Water well immediately after planting.
Halfway through the cultivation, after the cabbage has formed, it is best to add some extra fertilizer (especially recommended when there is a lot of rain during the growing season).
Harvesting is best done a few days before the flower buds open. If harvested too soon, the umbels will be too small; later harvesting produces blooms and loose umbels.
You can harvest the main bud first.
If necessary, you can fertilize afterwards.
Then the side shoots will sprout. These are also ready for harvest 2 to 4 weeks later.
Fresh broccoli does not keep long, it is best to store it in the refrigerator wrapped in foil. When the flower buds turn yellow or start to flower, it is overripe. The taste also becomes more bitter.
Broccoli can be blanched (2 to 4 minutes) and frozen.

:-Corn foot: irregular swelling at the roots that prevents the plant from absorbing nutrients. Cause is insufficient fruit rotation or too wet soil. To prevent infestation, it is necessary to strive for a good fruit rotation (1/4 year).
-Cabbage fly: lays eggs at the base and the larvae attack the main root. Prevent this by placing a cloth over the plants.
