Rucola
Product information "Arugula, ruccola, rocket salad - pot ø13 cm (Eruca vesicaria)"
Arugula is also sometimes called nut salad (because of its flavor) or rocket salad (because of the shape of the seed casings).
It is native to Mediterranean and East Asia and can grow up to 1m tall. The plant belongs to the cabbage family and is related to mustard and radish
The leaves are long and narrow in a loose head and have a spicy, nutty flavor.
Thanks to the success of southern (Italian) cuisine, arugula has also become very popular in our area in recent years. Most people consider it a type of lettuce and use it as a seasoning.
GROUND TIPS:
Arugula requires a humus-rich, moisture-rich soil. The plant tolerates full sun but prefers a bit of shade: this ensures tender leaves and prevents the plant from flowering and giving seed too quickly.
The flavor also becomes sharper in poor dry soil and lots of sun. Arugula can be sown in the field in rows (leave +/- 15 cm spacing).
However, it is also easy to grow in a pot: on the terrace or on the windowsill. Pick a few leaves at will, wash them and you can use them immediately.
CULINARY:
Always use arugula fresh in cooking. Young leaves taste the smoothest.
Arugula is usually used to give salads and southern dishes a spicy flavor. In Italy, arugula salad is eaten with grated parmesan cheese and walnut oil. It is also delicious with tomatoes, fish, cold pasta,...
When arugula is added to wok dishes or pasta, it loses its sharp flavor, but the nuttiness remains
MEDICINAL:
Arugula is a healthy vegetable rich in vitamin C and potassium and also low in calories. Eating arugula is said to increase libido, but it is not really used medicinally.
