Want to give your winged friends a helping hand? Then give our beautiful nesting boxes a nice spot in your garden! 🐦
• Hang the nest high up on the branches of trees so that house and neighbourhood cats can't reach it! Ideally near bushes or trees with prickly leaves or thorns.
• Clean the nesting box after the season so that no pests descend on it or the birds get sick.

Why put a birdhouse in your garden? 🐦
A birdhouse is not only an attractive addition to your garden, it is also of great importance for bird welfare. With increasing urbanisation and fewer natural hiding places, many birds struggle to find a safe nesting place. You can help!
Benefits of a birdhouse or nesting box:
- Provides shelter from rain, cold and predators
- Helps birds raise their young
- Promotes biodiversity in your garden
- Natural remedy against pests (birds eat insects!)
What is the difference between a birdhouse and a nesting box?
The names nesting box and bird house are often used interchangeably. A nesting box is a house in which a bird can take shelter, but can also breed in spring. The term bird house is also often used for this purpose. In addition, bird house is also sometimes used to refer to a feeder.
Which birdhouse do I choose?
Not every bird feels at home in the same nesting box. At Hermie.com, we have customised birdhouses for specific species:
- Nest boxes for tits: Small entrance opening (28-32 mm)
- Birdhouses for robins & blackbirds: Open front or half-open houses
- Multi-purpose nest boxes: Suitable for several species
Pay attention to the size, entrance opening and placement. A well-placed bird house really makes a difference!
When to hang a nest box?
The best time to hang a nest box is in autumn or early spring, before the breeding season starts (around February-March). This gives birds plenty of time to explore the house and possibly set it up for breeding.
Tip from Marcel:
Hang it in a quiet place, sheltered from wind and rain, and at least 1.5 metres high. Place the opening facing north, northeast or east.
Choose quality and durability
Our birdhouses are made of weather-resistant and natural materials such as FSC-approved wood. Some models come with an inspection lid or can be easily opened for cleaning - after all, hygiene is important for a healthy nest!
Bird-friendly garden? Combine with feeders & nesting material!

This way you create a complete bird-friendly environment where birds love to come back.
