Are you familiar with our recycled plant blisters? ♻️

As a company in the green sector, we are constantly trying to introduce ecological alternatives. In 2019, for example, we introduced our reusable shopper, and since the beginning of the webshop we have been working with recycled plastic blisters to send our plants to the customers in a well-protected way. Because it is, of course, very important that the plants reach our customers safe and sound. That way you are satisfied, and there are also fewer returns (= less transport and exhaust fumes). However, these blisters can sometimes cause confusion, because plastic has a bad name and at first glance seems anything but environmentally friendly. Even though everything in our company revolves around the (vegetable) garden! However, our blisters are better for the environment as they are made from 100% recycled PMD waste. This way no new raw materials have to be exploited and the discarded plastic is not burned. After use, you can simply put the blisters back into the PMD bag for a third life.

But how are these blisters made? First of all, the PMD waste is sorted, and the usable bottles and flasks are stripped of their labels and envelopes. Then they are washed and ground into small grains. These granules are then used to make the casing. Because this is recycled waste, the blisters may vary in colour, but we are happy to accept that. Also for the production process, as much (self-generated) green energy as possible is used. The film below gives you a glimpse of the production process!

1. Energy-efficient:

Plastic can be easily melted into various forms with little energy. In this way, packaging can be adapted to products from different sectors in order to package them as compactly as possible.

2. Strong:

The blisters are strong and absorb shocks during transport. This way, the plants remain in place and arrive at the customer in good condition.

3. Lightweight:

The packaging is as light as a feather and easy to stack. This means that less transport is needed, because you can stack a lot in one truck.

4. Transparent:

The blisters are transparent (with a green shine) and therefore allow enough light through for the plant. There are also holes in the blisters so that the plants can continue to breathe, and they can survive for several days during possible delays.

5. Moisture proof:

This packaging creates the perfect micro-climate for the plants during shipping.

6. Recyclable:

They are made from PMD waste, which is where they end up. So the circle is complete. To make this clear to the customers, the producer also developed a logo. This logo will appear on the new blister productions.

So our blisters are literally and figuratively green! In addition to packaging materials, more and more garden products are made from recycled materials. Just think of the Ecorubs (made from discarded car tyres) or the Ecolats (100% recycled plastic). There is always room for improvement, so do you have a tip for us?
