Strawberry mint - pot ø13 cm (mentha arvensis strawberry)
Aardbeienmunt
Product information "Strawberry mint - pot ø13 cm (mentha arvensis strawberry)"
Strawberry mint (Mentha Arvensis strawberry), like all mint species, belongs to the lipflower family (Lamiaceae).
The strawberry mint enriches any herb garden with its fruity and delicate aroma. She does not contain a dominant mint flavor like many other mint varieties, therefore the sweet strawberry aroma comes into its own.
Mint has been used for centuries: it was already known to the Egyptians and the Ancient Greeks.
It is a very extensive family with many varieties (more than 600) that today occurs all over the world, both in nature and in many cultivated forms.
It is a perennial easy plant, easily growing up to 30 cm tall and completely hardy
CULTIVATION TIPS:
Strawberry mint is a perennial plant, easy to care for and hardy. It prefers a sunny spot and adequate nutrition (fertilize every 6 weeks with an organic fertilizer).
In contrast to the classic mint varieties, strawberry mint prefers a moderately moist location. Harvest at will, regular pruning promotes growth. In spring the plant can be cut back completely. If you have several mint varieties it is best to remove all the flowering stems to avoid cross-pollination between the different varieties.
CULINARY:
The leaves of strawberry mint give a surprising, fresh and fruity flavor to all kinds of dishes. It goes well in summer drinks, ice cream, desserts, dishes with cottage cheese, fruit salad and sauces.
The leaves can be used to make a delicious infusion tea (as with other mint varieties).
The flowers and flower buds are beautiful as a garnish for desserts and ice cream.
