What are LeatherjacketsEmilts
are the larvae of the Long-legged Mosquito. They can cause great damage to lawns by eating the roots and thus causing the grass to die. You can find the larvae just below the roots of the grass. A striking image is that the grass turns pale in color and later also yellow. Small holes in the soil are a striking feature of Leatherjackets.


Control with nematodesNematodes
are actually very small worms that occur freely in nature. This particular species controls larvae, such as the crane fly, but is harmless to other animals, such as birds and pets.
The nematodes are poured over the grass mixed with water. The nematodes enter the larvae through the skin and make them sick, which causes them to stop eating almost immediately. After a few days they die. When the larvae are eaten by birds, they are not affected at all.

These nematodes also work against ants. The ants will not be killed but chased away.

ApplicationThe
control of Leatherjackets with nematodes is very simple, the only thing you need is a package of nematodes and a pressure washer or watering can. The most suitable sprayers we have selected and you can order inexpensively with the nematodes on our website. You can also use the Luxan Nema-T-Pot which you can connect to the garden hose.

The control is best done in the evening when the sun is not shining on the grass. First, spray the grass wet. Then mix the nematodes with water (see the manual for the proportions) and let it stand for a while, stir again and fill the pressure sprayer. Then spray the grass wet.

You can then wait calmly for the nematodes to fight the grubs and red mites, nature does its work.

After the treatment it is recommended to spray the grass and keep it moist for 2 weeks for the best result.
