Valerian - pot 9x9 cm (Valeriana officinalis)
Echte valeriaan
Product information "Valerian - pot 9x9 cm (Valeriana officinalis)"
Valerian is an imposing shrub.
CULTIVATION TIPS:
Valerian is a perennial plant that we give a spot in the sun or semi-shade, preferring a moist, nutrient-rich and chalky soil.
The roots are harvested in the fall of the 2nd year from as soon as the leaves die. After harvesting, we immediately rinse them clean under the tap, dry them and string them on a string, which we then hang until the roots are thoroughly dry.
USES:
In cooking, valerian does not really have many uses, valerian oil is used as a flavoring in ice cream, spirits and tobacco.
Valerian root contains valepotriates, which are known for their calming effect. We use the root of the valerian, fresh or dried. A valerian bath can be a solution for insomnia and nervousness. We take a valerian bath just before going to bed. For this we pour 100 g of valerian root with 1l of boiling water. We let it soak for 10 hours, then strain it and add it to the bath water. Valerian tea is also very soothing and we drink it for insomnia, nervousness, anxiety and stress-induced disorders. We let 1 to 2 teaspoons of valerian root soak in hot water for 10 minutes. Valerian also has a positive effect in ADHD and nicotine withdrawal.
Valerian oil is used in certain perfumes.
