Product information "Ribes uva-crispa 'Hinnonmäen Punainen' (Hinnonmäki Röd) - bare root - bush"

Red gooseberry or gooseberry is easy to grow, even in a small garden.

CULTIVATION TIPS:
The gooseberry is monoecious, pollination is by insects. It prefers dry to slightly moist soil in sun or partial shade. Gooseberries can be grown as a bush, but also as a straight hedge.
We can harvest from the end of June until the end of July.

The maintenance pruning is done in February-March.
When growing as a hedge:
- we cut back weak fruit wood to a few buds -
remove ground shoots, low standing, weak, sick and crossing twigs -
make branches only by cutting back to strong twigs -
perennial wood is replaced annually by annual twigs and is therefore cut back -
do not cut back the remaining twigs further When
growing as a shrub, we remove the downward hanging and crossing branches and any sickly twig tops. We keep 5 to 8 twigs.

ADVICE FOR PROBLEMS:
Gooseberry is susceptible to American powdery mildew or white disease. We recognize the disease because the shoot tips take on a white powdery appearance, afterwards the tips turn brown. The cultivar 'Hinnonmaki' is tolerant to this disease
