Product information "Angelica large - pot 9x9 cm (Angelica archangelica)"

The Angelica is a big beautiful and imposing shrub in our garden

CULTIVATION TIPS:
Angelica is a perennial shrub, after 2 to 3 years the plant dies off. It likes a slightly shaded place, in a nutrient rich, moist soil. We harvest the leaves and leaf stalks before flowering (June-August), we use the leaves fresh, if desired we can dry the leaves as well. Roots we harvest in the fall of the 2nd year. We hang them up to dry.

USES:
The leaves and petioles of angelica have an anise-like, sweet aroma and are therefore ideally suited for use in desserts. The flavor is also good in mixed salads, sauces and fish soups. The young stems can be eaten raw. The dried seeds are used in cakes and cookies. Pieces of dried root and the dried seeds have an application in certain liqueur preparations.

The root of the plant promotes digestion, helps with mild cramps of the stomach and intestines and helps with flatulence and bloating. A cup of tea before dinner calms the stomach and awakens the appetite. For the tea we let 1 teaspoon of dried root steep for 5 minutes in 1/2l of boiling water. Because of its expectorant and anti-infection properties, we can also drink the tea with colds.
CAUTION: pregnant women should not use this herb for medicinal purposes, due to its possible abortive effect. Use as a kitchen herb, however, is not harmful during pregnancy.
